About Shaggyman

Born and raised in rural New Zealand between a beach and a farm, I was always surrounded by animals.

My first childhood job was at Westwood Cat Motel, where for a mighty $3 an hour I hand washed 300 cat dishes twice a day, fed, patted and cleaned up after a horde of happy, angry, sad, confused and sometimes downright mean kitties who were missing their humans. (Often with 3 cats on my shoulders.)

I wasn’t exactly raised by wolves, but you could say I grew up in a zoo. Our collection of animals ranged from dogs to rabbits to aviaries full of birds, hens, fish and our lamb, a New Zealand cliche I know. Lambchops was one of the cutest pets we ever had - despite her love of destroying the flowers in Mom’s garden. I helped out the neighbours with their horses as well and because you can never have too many animals, there were even a few rescue penguins.

Holidays were spent on the family farm where we would train farm dogs to herd the sheep and if you got up early enough to milk the cows it earned you a cooked breakfast.

My friends and family nicknamed me “Dr. Doolittle” as wherever there is an animal there you will find me talking to it.

I am committed to meeting whatever your dog’s needs are whether it be a long walk, short walk, walking by themselves or maybe they want some canine companions and join others for a group walk. Perhaps they would enjoy an all day adventure or a sleepover when Mom and Dad are away.  I use gentle training methods with no electronic or harsh training techniques to help every dog I can live their best life.

Shaggyman Dog Walking, Training and Adventures, is me, just me, and always will be. I will look after your dog as if it were my own.

Scottie Miller, Shaggyman
